A good index makes a text more accessible, and so much more useful.I specialise in back-of-book indexing. Subject areas include the humanities, social sciences, and any works that incorporate te reo Māori. I will read your text with care to analyse the main ideas and distinguish between important information and minor references. Terms will be chosen that reflect the wording of the text and the words that a reader is likely to search for. Relationships between topics will be identified and appropriate cross-references provided. Helpful subheadings will be included where needed, and the whole index will be organised so that the reader can easily find what they are looking for. Professional indexing calls for a good understanding of the subject matter of the text, as well as knowledge of the accepted rules and conventions of indexing. I have the experience and the background needed to index any books that focus on Aotearoa New Zealand. An automated, computer-generated index cannot anticipate the reader's needs. Nor can it distinguish what is important. It can only list words and page numbers, without an understanding of their relevance. At Tika Check, we provide a professional index, produced in a timely manner. |
